The Honorable Parris N. Glendening is an academician and political practitioner. He taught political science at the University of Maryland, College Park for 27 years where he authored books on state and local governments and federalism and intergovernmental relations.
Glendening also served 31 years in elected office---City Council (Hyattsville) County Council and 12 years County Executive in Prince George's County as well as governor of Maryland. During that time he was elected President of the Maryland Association of Counties (twice), Chair of the National Governors Association, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association (twice) and President of the Council of State Governments. He is a NAPA Fellow and regularly participates on NAPA review panels. Glendening is currently the President of Smart Growth America's Leadership Institute and Governors' Institute on Community Design -- a national non-profit located in Washington, DC.
